Projet DesirMED - English
DesirMED: Demonstration & mainstreaming of nature-based solutions for climate resilient transformation in the Mediterranean.
DesirMED is a project funded by HORIZON Europe Research and Innovation actions in support of the implementation of the Adaptation to Climate Change Mission (HORIZON-MISS-2022-CLIMA-01). DesirMED aims at increasing ambition, ownership and capability of regional Mediterranean leaders and communities through proven transformative climate change adaptation approaches prioritizing nature based solutions. To this aim DesirMED involves a multi-level set of actors in 5 Demonstrating regions and 3 Replicating Regions working hand-in-hand with scientific partners to foster holistic approaches to implement transformative adaptation. By engaging at the regional level key institutions in a multi-level governance framework, it will act as a catalyst to trigger and accelerate the necessary actions to increase regional climate resilience over the long run.
As part of this project, the Région Sud Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur is planning to develop an operational governance at the regional level through a technical club to support local authorities in the use of nature-based solutions as well as ecological continuities as cross-cutting tools to be deployed to reduce land use and improve the climate resilience of local areas. Indeed, the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’azur region is a double hot spot in terms of both climate and biodiversity, which needs to be tackled through an interdependent approach in order to organise regional resilience in the face of these major challenges.
In Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, this partnership-based approach will seek to bring together all the major regional institutions working on biodiversity and will target local authorities representing the various regional contexts. This governance will also capitalise on current projects under progress regarding the subject (LIFE Artisan project, European CardiMED project, etc.) and will draw on existing networks in order to complete the approaches (Territoires engagés pour la nature, Territoires durables, etc.).
This project has received funding from the European Union's Horizon Europe programme under grant agreement No. 101112972.
